U.S. Blues is just a good old basic rock'n'roll song. In its early days it could pop up almost anywhere in a show but by the late 70s it was usually regulated to the encore slot. I especially liked the high energy, often sloppy, "rowdy-but-right" versions of the early-mid 80s.

I actually thought it was one of their better "regular" encores- ended the evening on a light, upbeat note as sort of a flip side to the more relaxed, contemplative closing vibes of "Baby Blue" or "Brokedown."

The tune I never liked was "El Paso". Whether coming out of massive 1972 "Dark Star" or standing alone, I always thought this was the worst tune, cover or otherwise, in the band's catalog (at least until some of the mega-lame 90s tunes like "Shoe Fits" "WTGH" "Samba" etc).

Hey deadmax, there's a review of that Duke "US Blues" in this thread:

Never been a big fan of the song, but that particular version is now on my "to do" list.

Thanks Willow, I'll go check it out. If its the Duke show I have, it is a tremendous show.
